Out of Sight — Out of Mind

< p style=”text-align: justify;”>You know the old saying:  Out of sight our of mind.  There’s a lot of truth to that particularly when it comes to your customers. With so many marketing messages bombarding us daily, it is easy for customers to quickly forget about your product or service.
To prevent that from happening you need to stay in touch.  The more you communicate with customers the more your brand will remain top of mind.  Remember, it is much less expensive to keep an existing customer than it is to get a new one.  So why not invest in building an ongoing dialogue.

It really does work.  I’m writing this post because I recently received an email newsletter from a business I hadn’t thought about in quite a while.  After reading the communication, I realized I should reconnect with this particular company.  So customers do forget.

Regular interaction with your customers helps build strong relationships.  Of course, that means you need to develop a strategy to keep the communication channel open that works for your product or service.

Email marketing is one method by which you can easily and economically stay in touch with your customers and even potential customers.  But a successful email marketing campaign needs to have a voice.  In other words, you need to define the reason for its existence.

A good place to start is to think about what kind of information your customers would find useful.  An email campaign should never be an in-you-face sales tool.  Your communications should be welcomed because they provide valuable information from the customer’s perspective.

Secondly, consider spotlighting your customers or asking for testimonials.  Both are excellent ways to get your customers excited about participating in and receiving your communications.

Don’t overwhelm your customers with too much information at one time.  Your email campaigns should be interesting and concise.  Direct them to your web site for additional information if they are interested.

Finally, provide a way for your customers to respond back to you.  Make your communications a two-way conversation.  Ask for their opinions about services or products.  Everyone likes to feel as though their ideas are appreciated.

Email marketing is an inexpensive way to stay connected with your customer base.  With the right voice and a commitment to consistency, you’ll be able to keep your brand top-of-mind. You don’t want to be out of sight and out of mind.
